جنگ خوب است یا بد ؟

بر دل مردم شهر نیشابور ترسی بسیار افتاده بود سپاه دشمن به نزدیکی شهر رسیده و تیراندازان و مردان نیزه بدست در پشت کنگره ها ایستاده و کمین گرفته بودند . ارگ فرمانروای شهر  پر رفت و آمدتر از هر زمان دیگر بود یکی از سربازان محکم درب خانه خردمند پیر شهر را می کوبید و در نهایت پیرمرد را با خود به ارگ برد فرمانروای شهر نگاهی به صورت آرام و نگاه متین پیر مرد افکنده و گفت می دانم که گلایه ها در سینه داری اما اکنون زمان این سخن ها نیست به من بگو در این زمان چه راهی در پیش روی ماست . شهر در درون سپاه فراوان دشمن گم خواهد شد . دشمن شهرهای بین راه را به آتش کشیده و سرها بریده است .  دیوارها و درهای شهر توان مقاومت زیادی ندارند . هیچ سپاهی هم به کمک ما نخواهد آمد ما هستیم و همین خونخواران پیش روی . لشکر آنها همچون نیزه ایی به سینه شهرمان فرود خواهند آمد. ریش سفید شهر خنده اش گرفت : فرمانروا پرسید هنگامه جنگ و ستیز است نه جای خنده . پیرمرد گفت فرمانروایی که می ترسد جان خویش را هم نمی تواند از مرگ نجات دهد چه برسد به مردم بی پناه را. فرمانروا گفت سپاه دشمن در نزدیکی نیشابور است آن وقت من نهرا...
